You may have heard people say:
“You only need 25 metres for fireworks.”
It’s not quite that simple.
Category F3 fireworks are intended for use in large open areas, and 25 metres is commonly associated with the minimum spectator distance for this category.
But that doesn’t mean every professional display can automatically be carried out with spectators exactly 25 metres away.
Every display is different.
The actual space required depends on the fireworks being used, their instructions, the layout of the site and the surrounding environment.
And spectator distance isn’t the only consideration.
We also need to think about the area behind and around the fireworks.
Where could debris land?
Which direction is the wind blowing?
Are there buildings, roads, vehicles or other areas nearby?
What happens if the wind direction changes?
With professional fireworks, particularly F4 products, the display operator assesses the products and the location to establish the appropriate safety arrangements.
That’s why we’ll always ask about your venue, not simply how big you want the display to be.
A good display is designed to fit the location safely.
Not the other way around.
