You might imagine a professional fireworks display being fired by someone running around with a torch lighting fireworks.
Modern professional displays can be very different.
We use an electronic firing system, allowing the display to be operated remotely from a controlled firing position.
So why is that important?
Firstly, it allows the operator to remain away from the fireworks while the display is running.
Secondly, it gives much greater control over the timing of the show.
Different areas of the firing site can be used to create a wider display, with sequences moving across the sky rather than everything appearing from one position.
It also allows several effects to be fired together when the design calls for a bigger moment.
That becomes particularly noticeable during larger sequences and finales.
Electronic firing doesn’t replace the planning involved in a display.
If anything, it gives the designer more possibilities.
By combining the right fireworks with different positions and carefully planned timing, even a relatively short display can feel much larger and more dynamic.
For the audience, all they see is the finished result.
For us, that’s exactly how it should be.
